Design For Sustainability - Plastic Pollution

For this project, I design a content map that provides a detailed, logical, hierarchical research reference on aspects of Design for Sustainability. Within this map, the three main points that I focus on are how Design for Sustainability emphasizes the Life Cycle Stages, affects the Economy, and protects the Environment, and how these points are connected with each other. I can only use three colors for this map, therefore I choose black, green, and blue for my color. I choose green and blue in order to create a feeling of energy, ocean, and environment.

My concept is plastic pollution and how it can be affected different areas including both on-land and off-land. I used the image of plants, fishes, and plastics as my main objects. I also emphasized the use of green color as a way to describe the toxicity/ how the plastics have polluted the ground, ocean, and marine animals (fishes specifically within my posts).

The font I use is Gineso - using Bold for the headline. It matches with the waving lines for supporting elements. The bottom half is supporting elements. I use green and blue color as my primary color, and a bit of orange/yellow to create a connection with a white background color. I use darker tones in areas where plastic is polluted. A brighter tone makes the main objects stand out, but still able to show plastic still affecting it.

The uniqueness of this brochure is the special die-cut of the fish and underground where I emphasize the impact of plastic pollution.

The animation shows how plastic pollution affects marine animals and human health. The animation wants to raise awareness about the issue and call people to be more responsible and be a part of the process of saving the Earth.

My campaign emphasizes does not only focus on the problems which help the audience gain more knowledge on plastic pollution and raise their awareness but also concentrates on the solutions that the audience/designers can take part in order to make a difference. At the same time, get people to know more about ‘Friends of the Earth’ so they can contribute to helping to save the Earth and take action now.
